Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
At Divine design we deal with a number of manufacturers with a large selection of great materials and ready-made styles to suit your overall designs. We do offer semi-custom or custom built cabinets of any style or material of your choice. From budget to high-end applications, we can work with you to deliver a great finished product you will enjoy for many years to come.
You may install your own cabinets, but we strongly advise that you use a Divine Design professional installer. Some potential issues in installing your own cabinets might be uneven walls or floors, plumb and square cabinets to ensure proper door and hardware fitment, cutting crown moldings, toe kicks or scribing certain areas. A proper installation ensures your investment will stand the test of time.
Marble is much softer and more absorbent than either Quartz or Granite. Marble wears differently than Granite or Quartz, but are no less beautiful even with time. Certain liquids such as vinegar, tomato or lemon juice might etch the surface over time this will create a patina, or “old-world” look that appeals to some clients.
Onyx takes quite a bit of care and caution compared to other materials. Onyx is a calcium-based stone, it has a softer surface that requires constant care to keep it looking new and free of damages. Onyx is a semi-precious stone and is commonly used as decorating accents.
Again, the terms and conditions are broken down in the contract based on progress with a completion date included. Typically, we require a nominal deposit for materials and the rest of the payments are determined beforehand. Once the work reaches a pre-determined milestone, a progress payment will be made with the final payment due upon project completion unless another aggreement is reached.
It’s always helpful to look through the internet or magazines for the type of style and design you prefer. You are welcome to look through our website as well. Next make a list of things you need to have and things you do not want. This will help us narrow down your tastes and needs.
We are professionals and we do things in a way as to cause the least amount of disruption to your home. Will your home get a little dusty? yes. Is it possible there might be some delays? yes. A little Patience and good communication is the key to finish your project in a timely manner.
Specialty materials are identified in the contract. Also, when substitutions are unavoidable, we will make an equal substitution based upon your final approval. For such items such as lighting fixtures or doorknobs that you have not chosen when the contract is signed, a budget will be determined to cover exactly what will be spent for each.
A change order is a written statement signed by the customer authorizing the contractor to do additional work not included in the original contract. The change order must be signed before the additional work is started. A change order may also be written when the contractor comes across any unforeseen damage or problem.
Planning / Process
We understand the apprehension in telling a contractor your budget, but in our case we really need to know. It’s like buying a car, do you need a compact, an SUV or a high-end sports car? Assume you need an SUV… 5 seater or 7 seater? V6 or V8? We want your project to fit within your budget, we want to deliver a professional finished product you can be proud of without breaking the bank.
It is important to compare “apples to apples” when comparing costs and materials offered by the big box stores. Our approach has always been to listen to your needs and design your space to be as functional as possible and deliver your desired results. We will work within your budget and inform you of the costs for each item so that you can make informed decisions.
